The zodiac used in Vedic astrology is sidereal — fixed to the stars — while Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac tied to the equinoxes. The difference between them, about 24° today, is the ayanamsa. The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa places the star Spica (Chitra) at 0° Libra and was adopted by the Calendar Reform Committee of India in 1955.
Why accuracy matters
A one-degree error shifts nakshatra padas, divisional charts and dasha balances. That is why AstroDoer computes the ayanamsa precisely for every chart.
