Understanding Vimshottari Dasha

Vimshottari is a 120-year planetary period system based on the Moon’s nakshatra at birth. Each of the nine grahas rules a Mahadasha of fixed length: Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19 and Mercury 17 years.

The balance of the first dasha depends on how much of the birth nakshatra the Moon had yet to traverse.
